Are you constantly providing value in your daily life? Am I? Does this show have value? What is it? So many questions?! Thankfully, Corporate found some hidden funds in the budget and we got another episode of Design Behind The Mask. Today’s topic is Value. Allow me to temper expectations. i do not have some groundbreaking revelation about how to add value to your life, your work, or anything important like that. As a matter of fact, I babble for ten minutes about how I have no idea how to add value to anything. So, if you feel like that on a daily basis, maybe you will enjoy this. What is up with your Value featured image?
That is a great question. Well, in 2018, Wix, the website building platform, put out an ad starring Jay Pharoah. In that commercial, in the first four seconds, Mr. Pharoah makes this face:
That face launched a million jokes in my circle of friends. During a game night, one of those friends printed out this image and taped it to my shower wall. I discovered it the next morning as my daughter and I brushed out teeth. Great prank. That event inspired me to draw the featured image. I had it printed into stickers, which are sitting in a box behind me. ready at a moments notice to slap on someones wall.
What does this have to do with value? i think it’s pretty obvious. That bit lip added tremendous value to me. SO much so that it is still relevant in my life in 2025. Also, it’s just really odd out of context and may entice some clicks. You have to stand out after all.
